In this four-week course, we work with various aspects of whole numbers. We begin by looking at place value, ordering and comparing, and the properties of numbers. We then learn the different techniques we can use when calculating with whole numbers, and briefly explore rounding and estimating. These two skills are important because they help you do mental maths and other calculations more quickly, and help you pick up answers that are obviously incorrect.
We then move on to the exciting adventure of finding the LCM and HCF of three-digit numbers before delving into prime numbers. We will also solve problems involving ratio and rate before closing off the course by consolidating everything we learnt about whole numbers.
This course is important because whole numbers are the building blocks that lead you to understand more complex number identifiers like real, rational and irrational numbers. It also forms the basis of most other maths content you’ll learn this year.
