Trigonometry: Sine, Cosine and Area Rules [Foundation]

The purpose of this course is to teach learners the skills they need to be able solve for unknown sides and angles in all triangles. We begin by recapping the tools learnt in Grades 9 and 10 and then progress on to the Area Rule, Sine Rule and Cos Rule to help solve for these unknowns. We finish the course by applying these tools in mixed questions involving triangles, where learners need to think about which tool would be best to use.

  Revising Triangle Tools

  We revise the tools we learnt in Grades 9 and 10 and use them to solve for unknown sides and angles in triangles.

  Using the Area Rule for Triangles

  We use the Area Rule to find the areas of a variety of triangles.

  Using the Sine Rule to Find Sides

  We use the Sine Rule to find the unknown sides of a triangle.

  We use the Sine Rule to find the unknown angles of a triangle.

  Using the Cos Rule to Find Sides

  We use the Cos Rule to find the unknown sides of a triangle.

  Solving Triangles Using All Three Rules

  We use all three rules – Area Rule, Sine Rule and Cos Rule – to solve for unknowns in triangles.

  We look at a variety of questions where we need to use the Area Rule, Sine Rule and/or Cos Rule to solve problems.
